What Makes Sherwood Oaks Different? Our Approach to Inclusive Gymnastics

A Gym for Everyone — Not Just the Confident and Competitive

At Sherwood Oaks Gymnastics Academy, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of gymnastics in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. From preschoolers taking their first leap to older children exploring structured routines, our approach is centred around acceptance, encouragement, and individual growth.

We understand that not all children thrive in fast-paced, high-energy settings. That’s why we’ve created a variety of classes to suit different needs and personalities. Whether your child is bursting with energy or feels more comfortable with a slower, one-on-one approach, we have a place for them. Our specialist 1:1 SEN sessions are tailored for children who may not cope well in group environments, ensuring that nobody is left behind.

Flexible, Child-Led Learning

Rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all curriculum, our instructors work to understand each child’s ability, confidence level, and goals. For some, this means working toward competitive pathways and structured progression. For others, it’s about simply having fun, developing coordination, and building confidence. We celebrate every achievement — whether it’s a first somersault or a smile at the end of a session.

Experienced, Empathetic Instructors

Our team of instructors is not only highly trained in gymnastics but also experienced in working with children of varying abilities and backgrounds. They create a calm and positive atmosphere, encouraging children to try new things without fear of judgement. Many of our coaches have additional training in supporting children with SEN and behavioural needs, giving parents peace of mind and children the support they need to flourish.

More Than Just Gymnastics

We see gymnastics as more than a sport — it’s a platform for learning life skills. Children who attend our sessions build physical strength, balance, and flexibility, but also learn resilience, teamwork, focus, and self-discipline. Most importantly, they have fun and feel like they belong.

Our Inclusive Ethos

Inclusivity isn’t just a feature of our programme — it’s at the heart of everything we do. We maintain open communication with parents and carers, make adjustments where needed, and welcome feedback so we can continue to improve and adapt.

If you’re looking for a gymnastics academy that puts children first — all children — Sherwood Oaks is the place. We invite you to come and see what makes us different.
